WebMost centres (33/39, 85%) reported access to an available ‘block anaesthetist’ who could assist and provide a brachial plexus block if required. Thirty-six percent (14/39) of centres reported that brachial plexus blocks are used for less than 10% of patients undergoing AV fistula access surgery. WebOur preliminary results suggest that ultrasound guidance for supraclavicular brachial plexus block is clinically useful for accurate nerve localization and to minimize the number of needle attempts. Nerve localization was confirmed by two methods in this study: ultrasound and electrical stimulation.
